L3Harris CEO Ousted for Conduct Violation. Details? Classified.

L3Harris CEO Ousted for Conduct Violation. Details? Classified.

When a defense contractor goes silent, the rumor mill goes nuclear.

Danny FiskAugust 19, 2026 5 min read

Christopher Kubasik is no longer the CEO of L3Harris Technologies as of August 17, 2026. The defense contractor removed him from his role as chairman and CEO following an investigation that found he violated the company's code of conduct. L3Harris will not say what he did.

This is where corporate transparency goes to die. The company released a statement explaining that it "became aware" of conduct "that was not consistent" with its code of conduct. Specifics? Not happening. L3Harris made clear the violation had nothing to do with financial reporting, controls, customer relationships, or operational performance—essentially confirming it was personal rather than professional catastrophe, then refusing to elaborate.

In an SEC filing, Kubasik "does not admit, and expressly disclaims, any violation of Company policy or basis for termination for 'cause'," which is a lawyer's way of saying he's contesting the whole thing while the company's saying nothing. Kubasik gets zero severance, zero benefits, and no accelerated vesting of his unvested equity. He keeps nearly 384,000 stock options, so at least there's that.

Sam Mehta, who runs L3Harris's Space & Mission Systems and Communications & Spectrum Dominance segments, takes over as CEO. Those segments represent more than 80% of the company's total revenue, so Mehta wasn't exactly running the gift shop. Lewis Hay moves into the chairman role. The market responded by tanking L3Harris stock more than 4% on Monday.

The timing is awkward. L3Harris just nabbed a $1 billion Defense Department investment in its missile solutions business. An IPO for that unit is now scheduled for mid-2027, not before. Losing a CEO days before executing that kind of capital strategy? Bad optics. The silence only makes it worse. When a defense contractor clams up about leadership meltdowns, people don't assume it's minor. They assume it's bad enough that lawyers advised saying nothing at all.

Sometimes the absence of information is the most damning information of all.
