What could go wrong letting the engagement algorithm people run your operations?
Meta is pivoting to enterprise software. Yes, that Meta. The company that spent twenty years perfecting the art of making people addicted to their phones now wants to manage your company's databases, automate your workflows, and handle your most sensitive business operations.
The social media giant announced Monday that it's launching Meta Enterprise Platform, a corporate AI business suite designed to sell its full technology stack—Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code—to businesses and developers. To prove it's serious, Meta hired Chirantan Desai, the CEO of MongoDB, to lead the charge. His departure sent MongoDB's stock down 17 percent. Meta's own shares fell 4 percent. The market was skeptical.
The optics are genuinely wild. This is the company that built a $180 billion empire by algorithmically determining what keeps humans scrolling longest. Now it wants to be trusted with your enterprise data infrastructure. Mark Zuckerberg's justification is characteristically expansive: "We believe superintelligence will create significant new opportunities for all people and businesses. Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of working closely with many businesses."
That last part is technically true if you count "working closely" as "studying human behavior at scale to maximize engagement metrics."

The play makes financial sense. Meta's ad business is mature. It's spent over $600 million on AI infrastructure in the U.S. alone, with total AI commitments exceeding $1 trillion. Converting that spend into enterprise revenue is the obvious next move. But there's a reason traditional enterprise software companies didn't build their fortunes by exploiting psychological vulnerabilities. Trust matters more in B2B than B2C.
Desai brings real credentials—he's held senior roles at Cloudflare and ServiceNow, spent years in product and engineering. He's not a Facebook castoff. But he's also stepping into a company whose core competency is keeping people hooked on the opposite of productivity.
Meta Enterprise Platform launches this week. Your company's digital transformation is about to be optimized for engagement with the same precision that's kept your teenage nephew doomscrolling since 2016. Rest assured, though. The algorithm knows what's best.
